The Challenge: Take original photo and replace the flag with the NC flag and add details.
The Process/Solution: Another challenging (but fun)photo assignment for an Our State cover. This time an existing photo was selected and the art & creative directors and I discussed adding the flag. We got a flag and a local photographer and began trying to rig it up to match the angle and motion of the original image (that is me in the far right image below). What ended up working best was using a leaf blower to blow the flag and that's what was used in the center shot below that ended up being the one I used. It was tough matching the color and blur needed to make it work in the boat photo, not to mention the reflection required cutting the flag image into pieces and warping it as best as possible to try and match the angle. The froth on the water was adjusted/added to in order to help the copy stand out, and a new sky was added in, along with a sailboat in the background.
