The Challenge: Establish the look/style for the Hockey issue by creating the cover. (This was the first cover that was my design.)
The Process/Solution: At Sporting News we had a very collaborative process when designing our yearbooks. This was the first one where the design was mainly pulled from my concept and I had to sort it out. The covers had to work with a variety of different images as the cover athlete(s) would be different for the different markets. I went with a light background and a subtle ice texture fading in from the top. The font/treatment for HOCKEY set the tone for the font treatments and we used some of our more familiar fonts to help.
